road trippin to Springbok

Recently commissioned to design a website for the J C Botha Hotel Group, I hit the road to Springbok in the Northern Cape, leaving behind husband, kids and dog.

This is a long one as I have to cover the beautiful Namaqualand flowers in their annual Spring spleandour which I've never had the good fortune of being able to do before. "Nice" you might say "lekker job she's got". Yes, I get to see the sunrise in the morning on the magnificent green plains of Namaqualand in Spring, yes I get to smell the pristine clean air and feel the sun beat down on me while you all sit in your offices slogging away, and I get to do what I love best, being out there taking photographs for a brand new website project in the making.

What you don't know is that I work through the night processing images and planning. I begin planning layout and artwork and what's to be done for the new day. What if? What if the wind blows? OK, then I'll do the inside shots but I'll have to prepare the personnel for that first thing in the morning. They're gonna be mad at me coz they've got their day planned and won't have planned on me asking for beautiful breakfast settings, spotless tables, glasses polished three times over. Oh well let's wait and see what the new day brings.

My plans are down the river! It's 5 am and the wind is howling. Shower, check my mail and answer the urgent ones, sort out my camera gear and start my day to do the interiors of the J C Botha Hotel Group.

What a wonderful bunch of people to work with. Nothing is too much trouble. From the fantastic personnel at the Masonic Hotel, the Springbok Hotel and the Kokerboom Motel there's not one thing which I ask for which I don't get. They lay it on, ON TIME! This kind of treatment is difficult to find elsewhere believe me. With little time on my side I have to cover all aspects of each establishment from dining to boudoirs, layed back pubs, magnificent lady's bars, Colonial lounges and stairways, beer gardens, caravan parks and grandiose dining rooms.

I spend almost a full week in Namaqualand with the wonderful people involved in the running of this well-oiled machine, the J C Botha Hotel group which sees guests from all over the world especially during the annual flower season. I get to meet a group of bikers from Cape Town, professional people (Drs and wives) who made a special weekend trip to Springbok to see the wild flowers and booked in at the Masonic, an annual occurrence on their calendar I believe!

And then it's time to leave after being fed till I could eat no more. After meeting a renegade parrot who escaped from his cage and found his way into the Masonic where the manager went to the ends of the earth to home the feathered monster who attemted to devour everything in sight.

I'm heartsore, I've made good friends and will be back, but for now, I've got a job to do and you'll get to see the result of my "road trippin to Springbok" soon.
